7 Best Dubrovnik Beaches to Visit on Your Erasmus

Updated: Jun 26, 2021

The Pearl of the Adriatic, as Dubrovnik is often nicknamed, is best known as a summer destination. It has many beautiful beaches where you can sunbathe or swim. As an Erasmus student, we are sure you want to get the most of your experience, so we highly recommend you to visit as many as possible. The best things in life are free, and so are Dubrovnik beaches!

Here are our 7 favorites (in no particular order)!

Disclaimer: some places might be temporarily closed because of restrictions caused by the COVID-19 pandemic. We recommend you to stay safe and keep the social distance of 2 meters, and follow the guidelines of the Croatian National Civil Protection Headquarters.

1. Banje Beach

Located near the Old town, Banje beach is a special place especially for its fantastic view of the St. John's Fortress on the right and the Lokrum island in front. Grabbing a cold drink and laying on the sun here can indeed be a relaxing experience. It also has an open beach bar and a restaurant where you can order food or drinks.

2. Copacabana Beach

Named after Rio de Janeiro's famous destination, Copacabana doesn't disappoint. It's lengthy and has a panoramic view of Daksa island, Gruž harbor, and Franjo Tuđman Bridge. You can find it on Babin Kuk quarter, so take a walk through the neighborhood's green parks to get to this beach. There's also a beach bar and a restaurant available.

3. Sveti Jakov

If you're looking for a sandy beach outside of rush city life, check out this gem. Sveti Jakov beach (St. Jacob's beach in translation) is placed in the bay under St. Jacob's church and it gives an even more impressive view than on Banje beach. You can see Lokrum and the Old Town from afar and enjoy its unforgettable landscape.

4. Sunset (Lapad) Beach

If you want to get a more urban escapade, check out Sunset Beach, also known as Lapad Bay Beach. It's positioned next to Uvala Lapad's walking trail which is full of cafes, restaurants, ice cream parlors, hotels, and shops. So get yourself an ice cream and sit on this beach where you have a charming view of the bay and cinematic reefs. Pro tip: it's really the best looking during sunset!

5. Danče beach

Maybe you're not a fan of sand or stones, and you just wanna take a swim in the sea. Then, Danče beach is perfect for you. Located under Gradac park, close to the Old town, this beach is local's favorites. If you want to experience a local lifestyle or jump directly to the sea, visit this one.

6. Bellevue beach

Under the hotel of the same name is Bellevue beach. What makes it special is the bay that gives it an intimate feeling. Again, it's one of local's favorites, but you can expect tourists, mainly ones from the near hotels. Make sure to visit this beach before 4 pm as the sun sets earlier here because of the bay. Or come for an evening date with drinks and chill.

7. Štikovica beach

In case you want to leave the city and check out some other hidden gems, check out Štikovica beach. It's in Zaton, a village 12 kilometers away from Dubrovnik. You can take a bus or a taxi (disclaimer: as of May 8th, 2020, bus lines are updating because of restrictions caused by COVID-19). It's an enchanting escape place with a small-town vibe you can't miss.

These are just some of the best beaches in Dubrovnik, but there are many more. Not only in the city, but in its surroundings and islands such as Pasjača beach, Kupari beach, and Šunj beach on Lopud island. Follow us because we will publish our recommendation for other beaches us well.
